Thursday Thirteen

By Nancy Lindquist | June 21, 2007

Thirteen Things That You Can Say To An Author, Guaranteed To Get Their Heads Spinning.

1. Writing a book is easy.

2. Getting published is easy.

 3. Anyone can write ___________ (insert genre here).

4. I read your book. I bought it on E-Bay. You still get money for that, right? (We don’t. We don’t care if you buy it used, at least I don’t. I do care if you think I get paid when someone buys it used. Common sense).

 5. Send me a copy of your book. For free. You get tons of them. (We get about ten).

 6. I think _____________ (insert the genre I write) is dumb. Only idiots read those.

 7. My daughter writes porn. (Yes, dad said that. No, I don’t).

8. You can watch my kids today. You stay home.

9. It’s not a real job.

10. You’re a writer. You’re rich.

11. MOM, STEVEN’S HITTING ME! MAKE HIM STOP! (while I was trying to do edits. This went on for four hours).

12. You wrote that? It sucked. Followed by silence when you asked what sucked about it. We really don’t mind constructive criticism.

13. You’re a writer? Can you help me get my book published? It’s great. It might very well be, but we don’t have any real power. We can pass it on, but our word means zippo in the real world.

These are fabulous. I especially love #10. If we’e supposed to be rich, where the heck is my money. LOL

Oh, I know about #11. You’re lucky yours went on for just four hours. Very nice list. I am fortunate in that most of my friends are astounded that I actually have three completed manuscripts (the most recent one may actually have the potential of getting sold some day after I finish revisions). No one says “it’s easy,” at least not to my face.

Happy TT, and thanks for stopping by mine!

Do people really say those things to you? Geeeeeez! They know nothing… I’m not a writer, not published. I can understand it though; it’s a real job that asks dedication and hard work!
hanks for visiting my Litha TT!
