Oh for Cripes Sake!
By Nancy Lindquist | March 24, 2007
I just heard that Ann Nicole Smiths diary sold on E-bay for some amazing amount of money, to a man from Germany, who was a fan. I didn’t hear it on an entertainment magazine show. I heard it on my national news!
I have a problem with this.
1. A diary is not meant to be sold to the highest bidder. Even if she wanted it, she was smashed a lot of the time. Who knows what she really wanted.
2. Leave her alone. Next thing you know, someone will charge for page views. Isn’t anything private anymore?
The diary should have been buried with the woman, or kept for her daughter. Not sold for some ridiculous amount of money to someone who has no personal connection to the woman. Okay, we’ve learned a lot about historical figures from their diaries, but I purport that a) Anna Nicole is not a historical figure and b) they’d been dead a long-darn time before their private thoughts were made public.
I get why curiosity hounds would want to read it. People have a sick fascination with all things celebrity. I saw an ad for a show last night where a couple is paid money to have their wedding trashed to fool their guests and be on TV. It takes all kinds.
I don’t understand why anyone who loved someone would allow this to happen? The woman is not cold, yet.
Maybe I’m just old and boring, could be. I accept that I will never call my neighborhood a, “nabe” or my best friend a BFF. I even live with it. I must have missed the day that it was declared human beings no longer respect the dead. Was there an announcement? Maybe it was in Anna Nicole’s diary?
