Thirteen places/things I long to re-visit

1. Jamaica

Love the island. I should. I’ve been there fourteen times. I either love it, or I’m way into self torture. I love it.

2. Spain

I was there as a child, but it still sticks in my mind. Every nuance of that trip seems to be etched with wood-burned strokes into my psyche. The smell, the feel the stress. We went at a time when the government was decidedly unstable. At one point we were in a part of the city that was very dicey. The local police/military, stopped our car and my mom was so scared she was shaking. My mom NEVER got scared. I still don’t know why she was so scared, but I know it telegraphed to me and scared me too.

3. The Mariner of the Seas

Probably the best family vacation we’ve ever taken. Gene was attentive, the company was heavenly and the kids in love with the ship. Everyone was enchanted and wants to go back.

4. Great Britain

It was a super short trip. Dad and I had to use a business class ticket that we earned through the travel agency we owned. We jogged over there for three days. I suspect my dad wanted to show me the wonders of London, but I got into Soho somehow and never got out. I LOVED the quirkiness and the color. This was at a time when punk was in. I was punk, so it all seemed like the trip of a lifetime. I can’t recreate it, but I do want to head back there.

5. The Crown Princess

This was the ship that listed/tilted/heeled. Whatever you call it, those were some DAMN scary moments. I’m afraid to go back, but I can’t let it control me. I’ve got to, “screw my courage to the sticking place” and try again. It’s a gorgeous ship.

6. Grand Haven, Michigan

I grew up there. I go back as often as time and kids will allow. Translated that means once a year, or so. I love it there. I had a ball running around in the dunes and swimming in the lake (it’s on Lake Michigan). I’d love to share that magic with my boys.

7. Naples, Florida

My dad owns a condo there. It’s a fun town. You need money to do it up right. Since I don’t have a lot of scratch, I don’t see any point in heading there now. Maybe when I’m rich? Snort.

8. A little restaurant in no-where Alabama.

I don’t know the name of the place. I don’t know where the heck it was, but I had a WONDERFUL meal there. Gene and I found it when we were staying at some Holiday Inn, in some small Alabama town. There was an outdoor eating area and the whole place felt like being in the deep south.

9. Washington D.C.

I went in the early 80’s for a training seminar. I hit all the museums, the mall, everything. I got a real feel for our country. It’s one of the few times that, “American Pride” flowed over me. Mostly I’m a global chick, but there? Not so much. Wile I don’t want to be caught in the sensation that, “America Matters Most” for more than a few days in my life. I do like to feel pride of country once in my life.

10. Chicago, Illinois

I’ve lived there, adopted my children there and fallen in love with the city. I’m running my marathon there this fall. I love Chicago and will always go back.

11. Ruth’s Cris Steakhouse.

Any one of them. God I love their food.

12. Las Vegas, Nevada

Another city I love to death. I always have an amazing time there. Always.

13. The Womb

Not all the time, but every now and then I want to curl up and suck my wittle thumb. Mostly when I’m sick, or scared. I know it’s not practical, but I’m never gonna make it back to that restaurant in Alabama either.
